ANOTHER Surprise from a Customer!! DANG

You think you're getting a core and you open it and SURPRISE!!!  Now THAT was nice and was certainly not what I expected to see in the box   :o)

Another GREAT Review!!

I had a opportunity to meet a great lady, via telephone, some months ago because she was having problems with her wiper motor.  I found out that "George" (her car), a 1968 Sport Fury is her original car and her TRUE daily driver.  During the course of our conversations Helen advised that she has a sun visor full of people's names and phone numbers from where she drives around and people offer to buy her car and have over the years.  I got a HUGE kick out of that.

Anyway, she and her mechanic had thought perhaps the problem was in the switch and not the motor since they found another motor and put it on and got the same results.  Jim Slaugenhaupt, from JS Restorations, as a favor to me and to Helen, offered to take a look at her switch and he restored same for her.  Sadly, George is still experiencing problems with the wiper motor.  Jim and I were shooting the poop last week and we revisted Helen and George in our conversations and Jerry (my partner in life and crime LOL) built Helen a motor as a surprise.  Helen received her wiper motor yesterday and I woke up this morning to this great email and an ecard expressing her thanks for a motor that "mysteriously" showed up at her Knoxville TN post office yesterday:

Hi again Kim,
I emailed Jim this morning and told him of yours and Jerry’s great kindness and thoughtfulness!! LOL!! I also explained about the Tenn moisture problem…which I copied below for you:

“Hi Jim, Well, well, well…. I had no idea that Kim was working on a wiper motor for me! LOL! I got it in the mail yesterday! Soooooooo, when my mechanic gets back from vacation (in 3 weeks!!), he will be able to install the rebuilt motor. Hopefully the rebuilt motor and switch will fix everything up! Hallelujah!  (I told Kim I would send her one of my 2 wiper motors; I will probably keep my faulty original as a backup for awhile. The one I got from the junkyard looks a little ragged and only ran 10 minutes and then quit, so the elec man said months ago.) (Kim is right: Tenn weather, not unlike PA weather, can change from minute to minute, and I live within spittin’ distance of 3rd Creek so I get plenty of moisture on and in my car. I actually ride up/down across 3-4 ridges to get to work every morning. As an example, this morning, George’s windows were covered with moisture when I went out, so I wiped it all off. Before I could back out the driveway, the windows were covered again immediately. Then, ½ mile from home, the windows immediately cleared off all by themselves(on the outside). Then, another ¼ mile onward, all the windows immediately fogged over again, but by the time I had driven another ½ mile, they cleared again …all by themselves. This doesn’t always happen but does frequently. I think it is due to the warm air trapped in the little dips (valleys) with the cooler air on top of the ridges.  THANK GOD and Jim, I have my slow speed wipers again!
I don’t like not being able to see what is beside me in the 2-3 lane areas, especially near the I-640 interchange when folks are switching lanes frantically and exceeding the 45 mph speed limit. The 18-wheelers are also pulling on and across, as the exchange is right next to the ‘connector’ road that runs to the gasoline storage depots off Middlebrook.  Western Ave also connects closely to known druggie areas, or so I’ve heard. In addition to all that stuff, Western is now under construction for widening, so one has to miss all the orange/white barrels along the road side.
It has literally taken me over a year just to not bit my lip as I drive that route twice daily. (I used to drive it 4 x daily when Mom was in the nursing home(!))  I always drive thru that area with my left foot slightly on the brake petal, as there are also 4 shopping centers alongside that road area!  I see an auto wreck just about every week as there are many detours now.  And, of course, each morning as I leave home, I ask the Lord for a ‘clear and open road’ to work and to be my Shield and Buckler. HE is always faithful! And, I always claim Isaiah 54:17. (I’m not fearful, I just use my ‘daily bread.’)  When and if the Lord gives me my first million, guess I would think of buying a Hummer to ride thru that area! Are Hummers MoPars?)”
We had our church ladies Christmas luncheon last Saturday. I had an extra ticket which I gave to a new lady whose Dad is a preacher…I think she will be one also!?  Also, I managed to get a ‘free’ ticket for a homeless lady whom I got to sit beside. We prayed together for her lost relatives as well. Watch out! God is good!
THANK you and your husband again for your generosity and thoughtfulness!!!

Now THAT is about the best review a person can expect, not only in business, but in life!

I LOVE the ecard that she sent to Jerry and I also   :0)

Congrats to Jason Bair at Big Hemi Customs

Well hot dayum Jason you made the big time...and I'm proud to say one of my custom motors is on that car! Great job on the car, well deserved accolades.

It's on the newstands now!

Jason's got another car in the works now, a 1968 Charger and we was honored once again to be able to restore/build the motor for that one

Can't WAIT to see the photos of the pro touring Charger, should be done in a couple weeks!

Platings/Coatings Used on The Beloved Mopars

Here's a list of various platings/coatings used on the beloved Mopars:

1. Phosphate- inexpensive coating in various shades of gray to black. This is a hot solution dip process that provides a moderate level of protection. Often seen on bolts, nuts & washers.

2. Parkerizing- appearance similar to phosphate, but it is a cold dip process and gives poor long-term corrosion protection. This is what the Eastwood blackening kit is. NOT USED ON ORIGINAL MOPARS!

2. Black Oxide- similar to phosphate, but somewhat more "charcoal-like" in appearance.

3. Clear Zinc- often called silver zinc...this is a base of zinc followed with a clear chromate dip. The chromate dip gives the bluish hue and varies depending on the particular dip.
A straight zinc without chromate looks very close in appearance to cadmium.

4. Black Zinc- this is a zinc plating blackened by a chromate process. Can vary in appearance from brown to a rich black color and usually has a rainbow effect as well. Black zinc plating will degrade to an appearance that closely resembles gray phosphate. Careful inspection is required!

5. Zinc Dichromate- sometimes called yellow zinc..
This is straight zinc plating followed by a dichromate dip that creates the red, green, golden colors.

6. Red zinc- a couple fasteners used this color of zinc plating.

7. Galvanizing- this is a plating characterized by a leaf-like appearance. Seen on parts such as headlight cups, side marker brackets, etc.

8. Lead-Tin- a soft thick coating used on fuel filler tubes, etc.

9. Cadmium- used VERY little on post 66 cars. Has excellent corrosion resistance. Has a somewhat duller & grayer appearance than zinc plating.
(Testing by dipping the part in a muratic acid solution can be used to determine if it's zinc or cadmium... zinc will fizz like an Alka Seltzer tablet.)

The appearance of the plating is directly affected by the metal's amount of polish and/or texture. This is why you should never sandblast parts before sending them in for plating.

ANOTHER Plating Run!!

See Anything You Need???? I love it when I get a plating run back, it's like Christmas, but I'm a little tired of sorting through hardware and separating it...I like the big stuff, it's easy

Wiper Motor Prep For Plating

We take alot of pride in our effort and our workmanship, consistency of the "look" of our motors and the prep before plating plays a huge part of the process.

Extremely time consuming, we start with breaking down cores, soaking to degrease and remove paint.  From there it's an acid bath to remove all rust on the cylinder and inside the cylinder.  After that process comes the bead blasting to even the finish and then, the "fun" (and probably most dangerous part of the process), grinding rust pits, etc. from the cylinder and bringing them, systematically and step by step, to the cylinder we feel is "right" for plating.  Alot of work, alot of effort and anyone who works, even occasionally, with a grinder of any type, knows how it has a tendency to snatch the object you're working on from you and throw it at you at lightning speed....LOL

Time consumption?  Grind a cylinder, even with heat gloves, and you'll find out you can't finish even one before you have to put that bad boy down and start another...down the line.  Final process?  Buff and "spin" the cylinder to remove all grinding marks...without removing/wiping the stamped part number, date code, etc.

Now THAT is ready for plating   ;o)

And THAT prep makes for a nice looking motor

What I get when I open a box and what I build for return   :o)

Mopar 2 Speed to 3 Speed Wiper Motor Conversion

If you are doing a conversion on a 70-71 E-Body or a 71-74 B-Body from a 2-spd. to a 3 or variable spd. motor, you will have to replace the wiper motor crank with part #2822289-(70-71), also the link from the motor to the driver's side pivot with part #2822293(70-71)or crank with part #3431518 and link #3431102 (72-74). You will need a variable speed switch ending with part number 3488380 (1970-71 Application: B,J CV, L Dash SW Bezel,PU2947792SOP,Ribbed) or part #3488380A (1970-71, Application: 1970-71 B,J CV, L Dash SW Bezel,PU3488406SOP,Smooth).

If you are doing a 2 to 3 speed conversion on a 68-70 B Body application, you will have to replace the wiper motor crank with part #2822273, 3 speed bushing part #2580200, and a 3 speed switch part #2864014. The rest of the linkage, wiring etc remains the same. If you find any information that you find contrary to what I have posted here, please contact me. While I'd love to say I have one of every model, I don't, these numbers, etc. have been researched and/or put into practical application and duly noted...I'm not perfect and I'm always willing to learn!

WOW Passion4Mopars Featured on Graveyard Carz EP6!!!

The motors look fantastic that you did. They are featured in Episode 6 along with an on screen credit for "passion 4 mopars"
 Mark Worman, Graveyard Carz

Holy ganolies I can't believe it and I can't wait....I'm still waiting for EP5, as I think most of us are, and GYC was picked up nationally and I think, as least last I talked to Mark, they were taking a poll on which channel to air.  I wanted Discovery, some wanted Speed....we'll see where it lands.
